Let me just say, that I absolutely adore online education. Maybe it's the gypsy in me, that likes the idea of being able to be fancy free and still be able to get a good education. I could backpack across Europe and still get my education....who says I can't??
I don't fancy the idea of sitting through lectures and sitting in a classroom for the "projected" amount of time to forcibly study in a white room. I despised that the first time around in college and fled from the room as soon as lecture was pau.
I know that the reality for med school is that, I have no choice. Traditional schooling is the only way, but I say, "bring it on". I'll man up to the challenge because I really want that DVM degree.
At first I thought I would find a way to get the bachelors online and started diligently researching -to make the living situation stay as is- but am quickly finding that while it would be possible (but maybe not as fulfilling?), it would probably be more trouble than it's worth and when I go to apply to medical schools, they may not look on it fondly...
So, why fight it? Why go against the wind? If I'm suppose to go to a university then I should just man up a little earlier...I could get some really valuable experiences from it.
So anyways, my new plan, full steam ahead (and no looking back), is to narrow down these colleges...
In no particular order:
Southwestern University
*Georgetown, Texas
UT Austin
*Austin, Texas
Texas A&M
*College Station, Texas
Stephen F Austin
*Nacagdoches, Texas
My options are limited because I need a solid science degree with a good animal science influence, but Austin kept coming up in my searches for reputable Animal Science degrees...so who knows, maybe there IS a reason Austin keeps coming up in thoughts, plans and ideas.
Without picking favorites, I'd secretly like for Southwestern or UT Austin to win this race...but we will see. I'll be a CVT by that time and will be working in an animal hospital, so my work schedule would have to somehow appeal to that.
That means, this Gypsy will be on the move...again (big surpise, I know).

Georgetown is just 30mins from Austin FYI. So you could have all the quiet to study there and then Austin for funsies when you need it!
ReplyDeleteAlso, just a thought, I don't know if you remember the big flooding that happened on the east coast of australia last fall, but I was thinking they probably had a lot of displaced animals and vet clinics and stuff and might need help!
